Taylor
Taylor Swift is that rarest of pop stars A superstar who managed to seamlessly transition from the country music scene to making her an iconic pop culture icon and conquering the world in the process. Swift left country music like it was a second layer and proved that she's perhaps the smartest pop-singer/songwriter her generation. A person who has the ability to tap into the zeitgeist to make it personal, and be able to perform at the opposite. The skills she displayed were apparent on her earliest hits especially the neo-tribute Tim McGraw but her second album, 2008's Fearless featured a singer-songwriter figuring out who she was and in the process finding a mass audience. Fearless had a great success not only on American soil, with six platinum-certified singles. The Top Ten songs Love Story and You Belong with Me were the most important reasons. But, it also did very well across the globe. Speak Now delivered almost two years later and consolidated this success and moved Swift towards the top of stardom. The next three years, Swift's popularity grew through the years -- Red (2012), Reputation (2014), and 1989 (2014-2015) during which time Swift entered the realm of pop with her skills already well established. In the end, when she refocused her music with the stripped-down releases of 2020, folklore, and Evermore, she still remained on top. The position was defended by re-recordings from her past catalog, as in Midnights which was her chart-topping synth heavy 2022 album.
