Nathalie Emmanuel
Nathalie Joanne Emmanuel was born on March 2, 1989. Emmanuel started her acting career by performing in theatre in the late 1990s. Then, she was offered roles in several West End productions including The Lion King. In 2006, she began her career on screen by playing in the role of Sasha Valentine in soap opera Hollyoaks, after which she played in a variety of British TV shows until her film debut in Twenty8k.Emmanuel gained international recognition for her portrayal of Missandei in the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones (2013-2019) and then continued her acting career with supporting roles in Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials (2015) and its sequel Maze Runner: The Death Cure (2018) and the Fast & Furious films Furious 7 (2015), The Fate of the Furious (2017), and F9 (2021) and was a character in Army of Thieves (2021).Emmanuel was born on 2 March 1989 in Southend-on-Sea which is a city located in Essex, England. Her mother is Dominican. Her dad is half-Saint Lucian, half English. She has an older brother. Emmanuel recalls how her mother was the first person to recognize her talent for acting when she attended St Hilda's School. It ended in the year 2014. The Westcliff High School For Girls Grammar school followed. She said that she first realized her love for acting when she was three years old. Her mother then advised her to enroll in dancing, singing, as well as acting classes. In the West End production of The Lion King, Young Nala played the character as Young Nala. In the following year she was cast in Game of Thrones as Missandei Daenerys Targaryen's interpreter. She revealed to Jimmy Kimmel that she learned about the role in her job as an assistant at an apparel store. Emmanuel was named a regular cast member in 2015, after winning the role. Missandei was the only female from a different race in the cast. The scene in which she died while she was in chains was not well-liked with viewers. Emmanuel later said to The Guardian that the reaction to Missandei’s death was so powerful because she was the only one. A lot of people who felt marginalized or othered had felt connected to her or were influenced by them, especially women of colour. Many were hurt when she passed away, and it was tragic in the way it happened. They're pursuing the sole woman of color.
